Fortis Hospital Hosts GIIS Interns for Psychology Learning Program

At GIIS Whitefield, we believe that true learning extends beyond the classroom. In alignment with this vision, a group of our Grade 11 and 12 students recently completed a six-day Psychology Internship at Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta — gaining firsthand exposure to the dynamic and deeply human world of clinical psychology and mental health care.

This immersive programme was thoughtfully designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, students explored a variety of real-world psychological applications. They observed patient interviews and psychological assessments, gaining valuable insights into how clinicians build trust, maintain confidentiality, and deliver empathetic care.

The internship also introduced students to the diagnosis and management of psychological disorders — ranging from anxiety and mood disorders to more complex mental health conditions — within a clinical setting. A particularly powerful experience came from their exposure to psycho-oncology, where they saw how psychologists support cancer patients through emotionally challenging journeys, highlighting the essential role of mental health in holistic care.

Students further deepened their understanding by observing behavioural therapy sessions, including structured models like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which illustrated how thoughts and behaviours can be reshaped through intentional therapeutic strategies. Group therapy sessions added another layer of learning, demonstrating the healing power of shared experiences, active listening, and communal support.

By the end of the internship, our students not only gained a deeper understanding of psychological principles but also developed a profound appreciation for the empathy, resilience, and responsibility required in this field. Many walked away inspired to explore psychology as a meaningful career path.

We are incredibly proud of the following students for their professionalism, curiosity, and maturity throughout the programme:
Mannat Kaur, Gopika Prasanth, Kevin Sajith, Arhan Sapra, Anoushka Unnithan Rajesh, Deena Rose, Ahana Bansriyar, Aditi Alexander, Thanmaya Gurunath, Parvathy Nair, Fedora Joji, Alicia Fernandes, Varshika Reddy, Sanjana G.S., Naina Sinha, and Meher Bhat.

Their thoughtful participation embodied the essence of GIIS’s 9GEMS™ holistic learning framework, which promotes academic excellence alongside emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and character development.

This internship was far more than an academic exercise — it was a powerful step toward shaping compassionate, informed, and socially responsible future leaders in the field of psychology and beyond.

Congratulations to all our interns on making the most of this opportunity. Your dedication and insight are truly commendable!
