In February 2018, the students observed 74th death anniversary of Kasturba Gandhi, wife of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. The students paid homage to her and also her contribution to spreading the message of green medicines in the day-to-day life. This day is also known as ‘Green Medicine Day’ and GIIS students spread the message of creating a healthy lifestyle through the consumption of herbal medicinal plants and even spices.
There was a Special Assembly by Grade 4 and 5 students where the healing remedy through herbs and plants were explained by the students. The benefits of tulsi (basil), ginger, coriander, cinnamon, cardamom and many more medicinal plants such as Aloe Vera were explained and also the magical remedy that the medicinal properties of these spices or plants provide to cure many illnesses. Common cold, flu, cough, nausea, fatigue or asthma can be cured by regular intake of the green medicines. India is known to be the treasure-trove of green medicinal plants and since ancient times, the use of natural remedies was popularized by people of all caste and creed.
Further as part of the programme, the students gave a mesmerizing song recital 'Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram' and 'Vaishnav Janato' to pay tribute to Kasturba Gandhi. This also reflected the Gandhian teachings that is preached across all Global Indian International School (GIIS) campuses.
Grade 1 and 2 had a class discussion on the importance of medicinal plants. The students of Grade 3 wrote the medicinal value of two plants of their choice on the chart paper to share their views. Grade 6 and 7 did a research on the uses of any 4 medicinal plants and presented the same creatively on chart paper.
The powerful message of 'Let Nature Be Your Medicine' and the need to promote a healthy lifestyle by opting for green medicines was conveyed to every student.
