GIIS Dubai successfully hosts World Creativity and Innovation Week

The Global Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (GCIE) at GIIS Dubai proudly hosted the World Creativity and Innovation Week 2025 from 21st to 25th April, centered around the dynamic theme ARTiFACT: AI, Recycling, Technology & Art Fueling Creative Thinking. This exciting initiative aimed to ignite creativity, promote sustainability, and empower students across Grades 1 to 12 to explore the endless possibilities at the intersection of art, technology, and innovation. Throughout the week, the GCIE Lab became a hub of imagination, where students engaged in hands-on activities, experimented with AI platforms, and showcased their creative talents.

Students from Grades 1 and 2 began their creative journey by making simple musical instruments from recyclable materials. Grade 1 students crafted harmonicas using popsicle sticks, straws, and rubber bands, while Grade 2 students designed guitars using tissue boxes and stretched rubber bands. These activities not only nurtured their artistic abilities but also introduced them to scientific concepts such as sound production through vibrations and tension. By using waste materials creatively, students developed a strong sense of environmental responsibility while having fun combining art, science, and sustainability.

Grades 3 to 5 students participated in a creative upcycling project where they made colorful pen holders using tin cans, cardboard rolls, old boxes, and various decorative materials. They thoughtfully decorated their creations with colored paper, stickers, and vibrant artwork. Through this project, students embraced the importance of reuse, practiced design thinking, and showcased their artistic flair. The activity successfully reinforced the values of environmental stewardship and imaginative problem-solving, encouraging students to see beauty and utility in everyday discarded items.

For students in Grades 6 to 8, the week offered a fascinating introduction to the role of Artificial Intelligence in the creative world. Using AI platforms like Artbot and Copilot, students transformed text prompts into captivating visual artworks. They explored imaginative themes such as nature, space, and fantasy, while gaining an understanding of how AI processes human instructions and brings them to life visually. Through discussions and experiments, students reflected on the growing significance of AI in art and design industries, and how technology is opening new career pathways in the creative sector.

Grades 9 to 12 students showcased their advanced creative and technical skills by developing original digital artifacts. These senior students combined their understanding of design, technology, and innovation to produce digital creations that were displayed in a mini-exhibition. Their work reflected deep research, critical thinking, and a forward-looking mindset. Through this experience, students not only honed their digital creativity but also developed entrepreneurial thinking, exploring how innovation can shape future industries.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Mr. Siju Philip, Head of GCIE at GIIS Dubai, remarked, "World Creativity and Innovation Week 2025 was a celebration of imagination, sustainability, and future-forward thinking. At GCIE, we believe in empowering students to merge creativity with technology to become the innovators and changemakers of tomorrow."

World Creativity and Innovation Week 2025 at GIIS Dubai was a remarkable celebration of imagination, innovation, and sustainability. Through the ARTiFACT theme, students across all grades engaged in meaningful and age-appropriate activities that sparked curiosity, enhanced their creative skills, and inspired them to think critically about the future. The event reaffirmed GIIS Dubai’s commitment to nurturing global citizens who are creative, environmentally conscious, and future-ready to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
