Students welcome new year with a splash at Songkran celebrations

Splashing water and talcum powder on each other, students and teachers joined in to celebrate the auspicious festival of Songkran in April 2018– the Thai New Year which is celebrated in April every year. The water festival is a happy and joyous occasion for everyone in Thailand to welcome the new year with open arms.

GIIS Thailand campus joined in the celebrations with true spirit of the festival. Students wore bright floral shirts and smiled cheerfully as they walked into the campus basketball court, where the festival as being celebrated. Students, accompanied by teachers, offered Jasmine scented water to the Buddha, as a mark of respect. Students also poured some scented water on the hands of their teachers – a traditional practise observed on that day.

Principal Sopa Sittisruang, Vice-principal Sumita Jolly and Cyril Rodriques Ibanez were also present on the occasion.

Later, in the true spirit of the festival, everyone enjoyed the occasion by splashing water and powder, laughing and playing in merriment.
