The pledge to create a plastic-free green revolution begins at home and school.
As the world is progressing high in terms of development, it is also getting engulfed by the piling up of plastic waste. Hence, it is the duty of every human to save the environment. With the pledge to keep Mother Nature happy, the students of GIIS Whitefield spread the message to ‘beat plastic pollution’. Children across all the grades of primary and secondary were shared various ways of doing so - like using cloth or jute bags and steel lunch boxes in their daily lives.
Beating Plastic Pollution with 4 R’s
The theme of World Environment Day worldwide being ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, GIISians spread the message through a special assembly. There was a poetry recital complemented with an expressive dance and a beautiful backdrop. The students sang a song emphasizing on the need to stop using plastic and create a happy green world around for humans to live in harmony with nature. There was also a dance based on the concept of Refuse, Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. The students also shared tips on how they have implemented the awareness in GIIS Whitefield with respect to waste segregation, less plastic use and keeping the classrooms clean. There was a video showcased on how continuous plastic usage harms the world. Later then, students also planted saplings thereby adding more greenery in the campus and conducted a rally in the school to spread the message.
Key take way for students
Dr. Shivananda (Principal) interacted with the senior students during their assembly and while they were planting the saplings and asked them about the initiatives that they wish to take towards protecting the environment. The students were very receptive to suggestions and some of them pledged to take small steps in order to stop people from using plastic by practising it themselves.
