Students celebrate Yoga as a gift to mankind during International Yoga Day

BENGALURU, 21 JUNE, 2018 - The International Yoga Day was a perfect occasion to celebrate the joy of well-being calling for a seamless union of the mind, body and the soul. The events organised at GIIS Whitefield campus for the students and parents was truly a blissful experience for all age groups.

The gift of Yoga is indeed a blessing for all humans and regular practice will do wonders in keeping fit and fine with mindfulness. The Pre Primary children were the youngest and cutest group to get a wonderful yoga session. They all looked rejuvenated after a delightful interactive yoga session customised for children to provide strength, balance and calm. The session began with balloon breathing exercise followed by Namaste position. The theme for Nursery and KG 1 was Bear Hunt and for KG 2 it was the Hungry Caterpillar. It culminated with Savasana. The little children thanked the teachers with smiles.

The Primary and Secondary students enthusiastically participated in the special Yoga session.  Dr. Shivananda C S, Principal-GIIS Bengaluru, addressed the students and the parents with gratitude and gave a wonderful message which meant that Yoga is the unifying force that brought the entire world together with love and humanity. He further added, Yoga is love. Yoga is union. Yoga is the only solution for humanity.

The students explained the significance of Yoga followed by a skit to show to what extent it helps to heal and keep us happy and healthy. Children showed that junk food ought to be avoided to enjoy good health and shared the advantages of doing meditation and breathing exercises. Later then, basic Yoga postures were demonstrated to all the students. The healthy session on pranayama, meditation and yoga postures were done by all the students from Grade 1-10.  There was a special message that one should take a pledge to practice Yoga in our daily life.

On 23rd June, 2018 there was a special yoga session for small children and parents in the school premises. Aside storytelling interactive yoga session with easy and enjoyable asana for all age groups and a detailed pranayama and meditation session for the parents for complete relaxation, there was also a free medical check-up camp organized in association with Columbia Asia Hospital, Sarjapur road, for parents and GIIS employees. Yoga is an integral part of GIIS curriculum and the trained yoga teachers give the best training to every student of GIIS Whitefield. The mention of Yoga brings a relaxation to the body and a smile on the face of all the students.
