Assembly on Dussera was conducted in October 2015, by the students of Grade I A. The assembly began with Mr. Ganesh Sharma, Principal GIIS Whitefield, addressing the young students on the relevance of Dussera celebration. This was followed by the class teacher’s moral discourse. Thought for the day was focused around the winning of goodness over evil. The students were dressed in mythological costumes and presented a colourful and engaging skit on ‘Mahisasur Vadh by Ma Durga’, as the Goddess Durga, symbol of power, destroyed the evil demon, Mahisasura.
Dussera is of tremendous significance as Rama evoked the power of Goddess Durga by 9 days of prayer and then killing of Ravana in war at Lanka and bringing back Sita. The entire sequence of ‘Ramayana’ was enacted through a dance drama by the entire class showcasing ‘Sita Vilap’ and ‘Ravan Maran’. The assembly was concluded with the National Anthem.
Celebrating all national festivals, not only educates the students about the heritage and mythological history of the country, but also sensitises them towards religious and cultural tolerance of various communities.
