Sports bring to one the spirit of life, the spirit of competition, the spirit to win and ultimately the spirit to participate. Children@aps@s involvement in sports develops their diverse lifelong skills in the physical, cognitive, emotional and social Annual Sports Day 2014domains. It prepares a child to become a liberal individual who understands the value of teamwork and sportsman spirit in all subjects of life. Sporting activities play a major role in shaping students’ outlook and inculcating values like optimism, belief in oneself and the ability of taking failure in one@aps@s stride. A sport is an organized, competitive, entertaining and skillful activity requiring commitment, strategy and fair play.

Global Indian International School, Bangalore was delighted to host the Second Annual Sports Day on Saturday, December 6th.The weather was perfect and the atmosphere electrifying!! The Chief Guest, Mr. Louis Nickson, an internationally acclaimed AFC certified Indian football player captivated each one present when he addressed the gathering and guided the young students along the right direction. The special invitees for this day included Ms. Vaishali Borde, the National Head for Global Montessori Plus and co-scholastics for GIIS and Mr. Pramod Tripathi, the academic president of Greenwood High.

The day began with the Pre-Primary events. The children had practiced relentlessly and were waiting to showcase their skills to their families. They started with a colourful welcome march and were greeted by a loud applause from their parents who were overwhelmed with their tiny tots welcoming them.

The students presented two drills, the colourful Pom Pom drill by the KG1 sections and the Flat rings drills by the KG2 sections. The theme of the Pre-Primary Sports was ‘Animal Fiesta’ and all the races revolved around various animals. Nursery races @aps@Get the Egg Rolling@aps@ with kids dressed as chickens and @aps@It is Time To Party!!@aps@ with kids dressed as little frogs delighted everyone. KG I races Cheeky Mice, Bee Hive, Stack it Up, Duck and Popcorn Race, Panda@aps@s Pick & Crawl and Kangaroo Relay showcased the confidence of the young students. KG II races Bugs Bunny, Spider@aps@s Hop, Hop a little Balance a little, Super Monkey Lickety, Belling the Cat and Forest Rangers were not only colourful but also challenging for the kids. Every child received a certificate and was a winner.

The Primary students exhibited their ability with a lot of zeal and confidence. They began the show with a well-coordinated march past accompanied by the school band.

The young champions were exposed to a plethora of events such as track events including various races and relays, yoga and martial arts. The students put up an excellent display through the aerobics drill. The championship trophy was won by Chrysanthemum house followed by Orchid house as the 1st runner up and Hibiscus house as the 2nd runner up. The Principal Mr. Ganesh Sharma awarded the winners medals and presented the trophies. The Sports Meet concluded with games for the parents and an enthralling applause by all present for the success of the Sports Day.
