Choosing the right university is one of the most significant decisions in a student's academic journey. While strong grades are important, gaining admission to leading universities also requires thoughtful planning, self-reflection, and a clear understanding of future aspirations. Keeping this in mind, the Career Counselling and University Guidance Team of the Global Schools Group organised a series of university readiness workshops for Grade 11 and Grade 12 students, equipping them with practical skills and valuable insights for the next stage of their educational journey.
Grade 12 students participated in a two-day Essay Writing Workshop held on 23rd and 24th July, focusing on one of the most crucial aspects of university applications—personal essays and statements. These essays often provide admissions officers with a deeper understanding of applicants beyond their academic records, making them an essential part of the application process.
Throughout the workshop, students explored how to turn their experiences into meaningful narratives. They learned how to reflect on their personal journeys, identify defining moments, and articulate their aspirations with authenticity. The sessions encouraged students to move beyond listing achievements and instead showcase their personality, values, interests, motivations, and future goals in a compelling and genuine manner.
Expert guidance helped students understand the importance of structure, clarity, and originality while writing. Interactive discussions and practical exercises enabled them to develop essays that truly reflected who they are, giving them greater confidence in presenting themselves to universities across the world.
Building on this foundation, the University Guidance Team also conducted a Destination Workshop for Grade 11 students and their parents on 25th July. As students begin exploring higher education opportunities, making informed choices about universities and study destinations becomes increasingly important.
The session introduced families to the university shortlisting process, helping them evaluate institutions based on academic interests, programme offerings, entry requirements, career aspirations, and individual preferences. Parents were actively involved in the discussion, creating a collaborative environment where students could begin planning their higher education journey with clarity and confidence.
These workshops form an important part of the University Readiness Programme, reflecting Global Schools Group's commitment to preparing students not only for university admissions but also for long-term success. By combining expert guidance with personalised counselling and practical learning experiences, the programme empowers students to make informed decisions, communicate their unique stories effectively, and confidently pursue opportunities at leading universities around the world.
At GIIS Whitefield, preparing students for the future goes beyond classroom learning. Through initiatives like these, students are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and global perspective needed to take the next step towards achieving their academic dreams.
