Peace is more than the absence of conflict—it begins with kindness, respect, understanding, and the simple choice to care for one another. At GIIS Whitefield, students came together to celebrate the International Day of Peace, reflecting on how each of us can contribute to creating a happier and more harmonious world.
For students of Grades 1 and 2, Peace Day was an opportunity to explore the meaning of peace through creative and thoughtful activities. Through craft sessions, discussions, and reflections, our young learners discovered that peaceful actions can begin with something as simple as sharing, helping a friend, listening with empathy, or treating others with respect. They also pledged to be kind, helpful, and friendly to everyone around them.
Adding to the spirit of the occasion, Grade 4 students presented a special assembly centred around the theme “Peace Begins With Me.” The assembly brought together a prayer, pledge, thought for the day, news, affirmations, vocabulary, and a vibrant dance performance. Through each segment, the students highlighted the importance of kindness, unity, harmony, and mutual respect.
A special highlight was the Peace Dance, through which the students beautifully expressed the message of togetherness. This performance also gave students an opportunity to use creativity and expression to communicate a meaningful message.
The assembly concluded with an inspiring address by the Coordinator Ma’am, followed by the National Anthem. Her words reminded the students that creating a peaceful world does not always require grand gestures—it can begin with the choices we make every day.
Students of Grades 3 and 5 also joined the celebrations through engaging Peace Day art activities, using colours and creativity to express their thoughts and understanding of peace.
The celebrations served as a gentle yet powerful reminder that peace starts within each one of us. When children learn to choose kindness, respect differences, lend a helping hand, and stand together, they take the first steps towards building a more compassionate world.
