Montessori Week: Nurturing Curious and Confident Young Learners

Learning becomes truly meaningful when children are given the freedom to explore, discover and learn through purposeful experiences. During Montessori Week at GIIS Whitefield, our Pre-Primary children had a wonderful opportunity to engage with a range of hands-on Montessori activities in the Montessori Lab, while parents visited the lab and witnessed their children learning with confidence and enthusiasm.

The activities were thoughtfully designed to support key areas of early development, including concentration, coordination, sensory awareness, independence and curiosity. Our Nursery children explored Sandpaper Letters and Sandpaper Numbers, strengthening early letter and number recognition. The Pink Tower encouraged visual discrimination and concentration, while Bowl-to-Bowl Transfer helped develop fine motor skills, coordination and control of movement.

Our KG1 children worked with the Number Rods, developing a concrete understanding of quantity and sequence. They explored Sandpaper Letters to strengthen phonetic awareness, while Dry Pouring supported concentration, hand-eye coordination and independence. The Brown Stair further helped children develop visual discrimination and an understanding of dimensions.

For KG2, activities such as the Movable Alphabet with Blends supported phonetic skills and word formation, while Sign Board A strengthened their understanding of letter sounds and symbols. Through T-Shirt Folding, children developed practical life skills, coordination and independence, while the Touch Tablets helped refine tactile discrimination and sensory awareness.

Each activity provided children with an opportunity to learn by doing, practise new skills and develop greater confidence in their abilities. The experience also allowed parents to see their children engaging independently with purposeful work and developing a growing sense of curiosity and confidence.

This enriching experience reflects GEM 1: Academic Excellence, one of the nine pillars of the GIIS 9GEMS holistic education framework. By nurturing strong foundations in language, numeracy, concentration, sensory development and independent learning from the early years, GIIS encourages children to approach learning with curiosity and confidence.

Montessori Week was a joyful celebration of exploration and discovery, giving our young learners the space to learn at their own pace while allowing parents a glimpse into their growing independence and love for learning. At GIIS Whitefield, every little discovery becomes a meaningful step towards becoming a confident lifelong learner.
