Literary Week at GIIS Whitefield opened with a burst of imagination, creativity, and confidence as students across Grades 1–5 stepped into a world where books became adventures, words became games, and storytelling became an experience to remember.

For our Grade 1 and 2 learners, the first day was filled with engaging activities designed to strengthen foundational literacy skills while making learning fun. Through Rhyme Detectives, students hunted for matching rhyming picture pairs, while the Word Finding Activity encouraged them to spot and recognise target words. The Story Tree sparked their imagination and encouraged them to think creatively, while the playful Snakes and Letters Game helped reinforce alphabet recognition.

The excitement continued with a captivating Puppet Show, where students brought stories to life using colourful stick puppets. As they narrated their tales, they practised oral storytelling, voice modulation, expression, and sequencing, building communication skills and confidence along the way.

The young readers also enjoyed a vibrant Storybook Character Parade, transforming into their favourite literary characters and marching through the hallways with enthusiasm. Dressed as beloved classic and contemporary characters, they celebrated the joy of reading while sharing their love for stories with their peers. The experience was complemented by an interactive puppet show that further immersed them in the magic of storytelling.

Words took centre stage during the Spell Bee Competition, where Grade 1 and 2 finalists showcased remarkable focus, confidence, and enthusiasm. Standing at the microphone and spelling challenging words before an audience was no small feat, yet each participant demonstrated courage and composure. The competition turned spelling into an exciting celebration of language while encouraging students to expand their vocabulary and believe in their abilities.

The Literary Week experience extended to Grades 3–5 through a range of activities that encouraged teamwork, creativity, vocabulary building, and effective communication. Grade 3 students participated in Build a Palindrome, an engaging English and Hindi group activity that combined phonics, critical thinking, movement, and collaboration as teams worked together to form palindrome words. They also enjoyed a visit to the Book Fair, giving them an opportunity to explore new stories and discover books that sparked their curiosity.

For Grade 4, Pick and Speak encouraged students to step forward and express themselves confidently. Given five topics on the spot, students selected one and spoke about it in English, Hindi, or Kannada, strengthening their vocabulary, fluency, and public-speaking skills.

Grade 5 students began their Literary Week journey with the inauguration of Literary Week in the MPH, followed by an engaging storytelling session by Ms. Aparna Ghosh from OWIS Sarjapur Campus, who brought the entertaining world of Mulla Nasruddin Tales to life. The following days continued the celebration with a Talking Comic session by Grade 12 students, giving younger learners another creative way to engage with stories and language.

The excitement continued through the week with a storytelling session by a parent guest for Grade 1, a Book Fair visit for Grade 4, and a Literary and Theatre Club presentation for Grade 3, where students showcased the activities and learning experiences undertaken by the club.

Across classrooms, hallways, stages, and activity spaces, Literary Week transformed literacy into something students could see, hear, perform, create, and enjoy. From rhyming games and spelling challenges to character parades, storytelling, theatre, and book exploration, every activity encouraged children to communicate with confidence and connect with the joy of language.

More than a celebration of books, Literary Week was a celebration of curiosity, expression, imagination, and the confidence to find one's own voice through stories and words.
