Healthy habits are best learned when they are introduced early and experienced in meaningful ways. At GIIS Whitefield, our Pre-Primary students celebrated Health and Hygiene Week with five days of engaging activities designed to help them understand the importance of personal hygiene, physical well-being, and nutritious eating.
The week began with a focus on hand hygiene, where children discovered why washing their hands is one of the simplest ways to stay healthy. Through an exciting hands-on germ experiment, they learned how germs spread and how proper handwashing helps keep them safe. The interactive activity transformed an everyday habit into a memorable learning experience.
On the second day, students explored the importance of exercise and movement. Through energetic games and fun physical activities, they experienced how staying active helps build strong bodies, improves fitness, and keeps them feeling happy and energetic. The session encouraged children to view movement as a natural and enjoyable part of their daily routine.
Health and Hygiene Week continued with an engaging Health and Hygiene Talk led by our school nurse, Ms. Sowmya. Using age-appropriate demonstrations and conversations, she introduced children to healthy daily habits, personal cleanliness, and simple practices that help them stay fit and confident. The interactive session encouraged students to ask questions and actively participate in discussions about caring for themselves.
The fourth day focused on grooming and self-care, helping children understand the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene. From learning about neat grooming habits to understanding proper dental care, students discovered how small daily routines contribute to overall health and well-being. These practical lessons helped build independence while reinforcing habits they can follow both at school and at home.
The week concluded on a joyful note with Food Fiesta – Bond Beyond Kitchen, a special Parent Engagement Programme that celebrated healthy eating and family bonding. Parents and children came together to create nutritious food while exploring the importance of making healthy food choices. The activity encouraged creativity, teamwork, and meaningful conversations around balanced nutrition, making learning a shared family experience.
To thank parents for their enthusiastic participation, each family received a heartfelt thank-you card along with a peanut chikki bar as a small token of appreciation, adding a thoughtful touch to the celebration.
Health and Hygiene Week was much more than a series of activities—it was an opportunity to nurture lifelong habits that support children's physical, emotional, and social well-being. By combining interactive learning, practical experiences, and family participation, GIIS Whitefield continues to create meaningful opportunities that empower young learners to lead healthy, happy, and confident lives.
