Growing up comes with many new experiences, questions and changes. At GIIS Whitefield, we believe that helping students understand these changes with openness and confidence is an important part of their overall development.
A Puberty Awareness Session was conducted for the boys of Grades 4 and 5, led by the school’s Behavioural Counsellor, with the support of the Primary Segment Coordinator in organising and facilitating the session.
The age-appropriate session focused on helping students understand the physical, emotional and behavioural changes associated with puberty, with particular attention to changes and concerns specific to boys. Students were encouraged to view puberty as a natural part of growing up and to approach this stage with greater awareness, confidence and a positive mindset.
Held in the AV Room, the session included an informative presentation followed by interactive discussions. Students had the opportunity to participate openly, share their doubts and seek clarification in a safe and comfortable environment. An open question-and-answer segment further encouraged students to voice their concerns and receive appropriate guidance.
Beyond creating awareness, the session helped normalise conversations around growing up and encouraged students to develop a healthy understanding of themselves and the changes they may experience.
The initiative reflects GEM 7: Personality Development, one of the nine pillars of the GIIS 9GEMS framework. By nurturing self-awareness, confidence and emotional understanding alongside academic learning, GIIS supports students in becoming well-rounded individuals who are prepared to navigate every stage of their growth with confidence.
At GIIS Whitefield, every stage of a child’s journey matters—and helping students understand themselves is an important step towards helping them grow with confidence.
