Learning extends far beyond the classroom, especially when students have the opportunity to experience their chosen field in a real-world setting. Keeping this in mind, the Grade XI and XII Psychology students participated in a five-day Psychology Internship Programme at Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta, gaining valuable insights into the world of mental health and clinical psychology.
Designed for students aspiring to pursue psychology and related professions, the internship offered an immersive introduction to clinical practice. Throughout the programme, students explored the responsibilities of mental health professionals and observed how psychological concepts are applied in real-life healthcare settings.
The sessions were highly interactive, covering a wide range of topics including psychological assessments, counselling techniques, therapeutic approaches, Mental Status Examination (MSE), defence mechanisms, and various psychological disorders. Students also engaged in case discussions that highlighted ethical practices, professional communication, and the importance of empathy while working with clients.
One of the most valuable aspects of the internship was the opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge with practical application. By interacting with experienced psychologists and mental health professionals, students gained a clearer understanding of the diverse career paths within psychology and the skills required to succeed in the field.
The programme proved to be an enriching learning experience, inspiring students to explore the discipline with greater confidence and curiosity. It not only strengthened their academic understanding but also offered meaningful exposure to the realities of mental healthcare, making it a significant step in their journey towards becoming future psychology professionals.
