GIIS Tokyo CBSE students participate in Virtual Math Fair

For the past two years, the students had done their exhibits for Math Fair completely in-house, the school, under the guidance of the teachers. This year, due to the pandemic situation, students demonstrated teaching of different concepts with their own ideas.

The objectives of the numeracy week were

  • To enhance problem solving skills in students.
  • To reinforce independent project development and enhance teaching skills.
  • To make the students technically strong and confidently present their ideas virtually too.
  • To give an opportunity to achieve success and experience satisfaction of completion.

Students have an opportunity to share their learning and understanding of mathematical concepts with their friends with the help of props, charts , games, quizzes, projects etc., in a 3 minute video. They can take any topic learnt this academic year and present their lessons.

The submitted videos were checked by the teachers for any errors.

These videos were then shared with the respective classes during the Numeracy Week.

A google form was made with the class videos and shared with the parents for their feedback.

“I am very much pleased to see the enthusiasm shown by the students to prepare a lesson and to present it so gracefully and clearly.  It helped me to understand how much they have learned so far and the entire class got a chance to revise those topics with the help of their friends.I noticed that students paid good attention towards the lessons taken by their friends” - Ms. Banita

“ The idea of presenting our thoughts and teachings in the form of videos made us nervous, but when we saw our completed videos it was thrilling. Our classmates were exceptional in their videos. I have learnt a lot from them. It was inspiring. It made Math fun!” - Grade 3 students
