GIIS Balewadi students win Best Entry award for Young INTACH Newsletter - ‘India’s Culinary Culture’

Four students of GIIS Smart Campus Balewadi, finished with impressive performances as they won prizes as the Best Entry for the Young INTACH Newsletter - ‘India’s Culinary Culture’ for the October-December, 2021 issue.

The names of the four prize winners include Parmi Vasudev (6A), Koushani Biswas (6A), Vadodara Soumik Biswas (6B), and Aastha Aher (6A). The students were awarded one certificate and one book.

Throwing light on the newsletter, the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) is a nationwide, non-profit membership organization. INTACH was set up in the year 1984 to protect and conserve India's vast natural and cultural heritage.

The newsletter aims to highlight different heritage areas in each publication. Their latest newsletter (October-December 21) which is on ‘India's Culinary Culture’ has elaborate details of food and recipes from different parts of India with illustrations drawn by students from all over India.

Throwing light on the thought process which reflected in the painting, Aastha Aher from Grade 6 A said "When I was thinking about how I can make my painting, I thought of my Maratha culture. I wanted to share my cultural dishes, so I made a Maharashtrian thali. When I started drawing it, the real thali was in front of me due to which I could draw and paint my thali without any issue. While making this painting, I had a lot of fun with colours.”

Vadodara Soumik Biswas from Grade 6B chipped in saying "I am so happy to see my drawing which was themed on the Bengali thali getting published in one of the premier newsletters. This will motivate me to learn more about Indian heritage and improve my drawing skills."

Meanwhile, Koushani Biswas from Grade 6A said “It has been a wonderful feeling to see my drawing on Bengali food published in INTACH's latest newsletter. I will participate more in different activities organized by INTACH. This will encourage me to improve my drawing abilities."

Parmi Vasudev from Grade 6A seconded the thoughts of others as she said "I felt nice after winning. The newsletter by INTACH is the perfect platform for students to present their drawing abilities. I am happy that all the prize winners have helped in making our school proud.”

With the best wishes and inspiration which have come their way, the students are upbeat and already looking forward to future competitions.
