GIIS Balewadi Students Explore Animal Feeding Habits and Healthy Nutrition Through ‘Thinking Thursday’ Activities

Students of Grades 3 to 5 at GIIS Balewadi enthusiastically participated in a series of engaging and educational activities as part of the school’s “Thinking Thursday” initiative. The sessions were designed to encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and practical learning among students through interactive classroom activities focused on science and nutrition.

The Grade 3 students explored the fascinating topic of “Feeding Habits of Animals.” Through discussions, observations, and classification activities, students learned about different categories of animals such as herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. They were introduced to how animals’ physical features like teeth and beaks are connected to their food habits.

The activities also encouraged students to observe animals in their surroundings and identify their feeding patterns. The session helped students develop scientific vocabulary, improve observation and classification skills, and foster a deeper interest in the animal kingdom.

Meanwhile, students of Grades 4 and 5 participated in activities based on “Food Pyramid and Nutrition.” The sessions focused on helping students understand the importance of nutrients and balanced eating habits for a healthy lifestyle.

Students learned about various nutrients including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals, and understood their role in maintaining good health. They also explored the structure and purpose of the food pyramid and classified different food items into appropriate food groups.

As part of the activities, students applied their learning by planning simple balanced meals and discussing healthy food choices in daily life. The programme also helped enhance their observation, decision-making, and analytical skills while building awareness about nutrition and wellness.

The “Thinking Thursday” activities provided students with a fun and meaningful learning experience, blending classroom concepts with practical understanding and encouraging them to become thoughtful and health-conscious learners.
