The love for poetry beyond the Indian waters encouraged GIIS Balewadi students to participate in the 15th World Children's Haiku Competition 2017-18, themed around ‘Living Things’, and organised by the Japan Airlines.
GIIS students, namely Swastik Sahni (Grade V), Palak Gugale (Grade V), Bhargavi Bhavsar (Grade V), Ishita Srivastava (Grade VI), Srushti Kotgire (Grade VI), Bhumika Bhilare (Grade VI), Aayushi Sanadhya (Grade VII) and Sanskriti Das (Grade VII), sent their Haiku recitals with confidence and joy.
It is indeed a moment of pride to share that our students Palak Gugale, Bhumika Bhilare, Aayushi Sanadhya have been declared the winners of the Haiku Contest 2017-18. The poetic rhymes submitted by our students have brought home a big round of applause and appreciation.
Haiku is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllable, in three lines of five, seven, and five syllables each, with traditionally evoking images of the natural world. Japan Airlines’ Haiku promotion overseas began in 1964, when JAL invited Haiku contributions on an American radio program. This project was later transferred to JAL Foundation, who currently hosts the biennial World Children’s Haiku Contest for children around the world. This Haiku Contest has been carried out as part of JAL Group’s social action program to promote international exchanges through the appreciation of Japanese culture overseas.
Undoubtedly, such international opportunities provided by Global Indian International School (GIIS) have always helped its students showcase their innate talents towards literature, art, poetry, music and many other areas. Every GIIS student is gifted with a unique talent and it is overwhelming to see them bring laurels in competitions.
