GIIS Balewadi organised a meaningful tree plantation drive for students of Grades 9 and 10 at Ghoradeshwar Hill near Dehu Road, providing them with an opportunity to learn about environmental conservation, responsible plantation, and the importance of protecting natural ecosystems. Parents were also invited to participate, with a few enthusiastically joining the initiative.

The day began with a bus journey to Ghoradeshwar Hill, which itself became an enjoyable experience as students interacted with their friends and teachers. On reaching the base of the hill, the group undertook a trek of approximately 30 minutes to reach the plantation site. Pleasant weather and a light drizzle along the way made the trek refreshing, while the scenic surroundings offered students an opportunity to experience nature at close quarters.

Before beginning the plantation activity, students were guided on the importance of selecting suitable saplings for the local environment. They learnt how different plant species thrive under different conditions and why choosing native and climate-suitable species is essential for their healthy growth. Students were also encouraged to understand the characteristics, requirements, and environmental benefits of the saplings they had brought, helping them recognise that planting a tree is not merely an activity but a long-term responsibility.

Working together, students and teachers dug pits and carefully planted the saplings brought by the students. Through active participation and teamwork, a total of 30 saplings were planted. The group spent around two hours at the site, completing the plantation activity while also exploring and appreciating the natural surroundings.

During their stay, students observed the lush vegetation and local flora and fauna of the area. The scenic beauty of Ghoradeshwar Hill provided a valuable opportunity to understand the importance of preserving natural spaces and maintaining ecological balance.

The tree plantation drive successfully combined learning, environmental responsibility, teamwork, and recreation. The trek, pleasant weather, scenic surroundings, and memorable bus journey added to the experience, making the day enjoyable for students, teachers, and participating parents alike.

The initiative left the students with a deeper appreciation for nature and a stronger understanding of their responsibility towards the environment. More importantly, it reinforced the message that every sapling planted today represents a commitment to nurturing a greener and more sustainable future.
