Global Indian International School (GIIS), Balewadi, organised an engaging Shadow Play activity for its Nursery learners as part of its Thinking Thursday initiative, introducing young children to the concept of shadows through an interactive and fun-filled learning experience.
The activity featured teachers using cut-outs of wild animals, including lions, elephants and monkeys, to create different shadows. Accompanied by animal sounds, the presentation created an immersive experience that captured the children's attention and encouraged them to actively participate.
The young learners enthusiastically observed the different shadow shapes, listened to the animal sounds and eagerly guessed the names of the animals. The activity provided them with an opportunity to explore the relationship between light and shadows while developing their observation and listening skills.
Through this hands-on experience, the children were introduced to the basic scientific concept of how a shadow is formed when an object blocks light. The interactive session encouraged curiosity, critical thinking and active participation, making learning both enjoyable and meaningful.
The Shadow Play activity reflected GIIS Balewadi's emphasis on experiential learning, where simple, engaging activities help young learners understand fundamental concepts while nurturing their natural curiosity and enthusiasm for discovery.
