At GIIS KL, learning goes beyond textbooks and classroom discussions, it takes root in hands-on experiences that inspire young minds. From July 28th to August 4th, 2026, our Kindergarteners embarked on an exciting botanical journey through the project "How My Plant Grows," held right inside their classrooms.

During this week-long activity, our students stepped into the shoes of little botanists. Each student planted green bean seeds in small pots, taking on the responsibility of caring for their tiny gardens. Day by day, they watered their plants regularly and patiently observed the miraculous journey of life unfolding before their eyes. Through direct observation, the children watched as simple seeds germinated into vibrant green seedlings. They learned firsthand about the essential elements living things need to thrive, discovering the vital roles that water, sunlight, and careful attention play in healthy plant development.

The activity was designed not only to teach basic science concepts, but also to build character and environmental awareness from an early age. By connecting classroom learning with broader global goals, the project supported Sustainable Development Goal 4 for Quality Education through experiential, inquiry-based learning, as well as Sustainable Development Goal 15 for Life on Land by instilling an appreciation for nature and environmental stewardship. Furthermore, the experience seamlessly integrated the core 9 Gems values, promoting Academic Excellence through practical biology, Innovation and Creativity by encouraging natural curiosity, and Values, Ethics, and Leadership by teaching patience and personal responsibility.

By taking charge of their individual pots, our learners gained a real sense of accomplishment as their seeds sprouted. This simple yet profound activity proved that even the youngest students can build a deep connection with nature, learning valuable lessons in patience, care, and responsibility that will stay with them as they continue to grow.
