Lighting Up the Campus: GIIS KL Celebrates Deepavali with a Special Assembly

The spirit of Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, brightly illuminated the halls and fields of GIIS KL on Thursday, October 17, 2025, as the school community came together for a special, vibrant assembly. Filled with music, dance, and cultural pride, the celebration beautifully showcased the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, leaving everyone with a sense of joy and festive cheer.

Students from all classes: from Kindergarten to CBSE and Cambridge students—gathered at the GIIS KL School Field, donning their traditional outfits and adding a magnificent splash of colour to the occasion. The assembly began with the soulful rendition of the National Anthem, followed by a short speech by students emphasizing Deepavali's profound significance, history, and customs.

The event, which blended education with celebration, powerfully reflected the school's commitment to the 9Gems holistic approach, specifically fostering Visual and Performing Arts (Gem 3), Universal Values and Ethics (Gem 7), and Community and Care (Gem 8). It also beautifully aligned with SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting cultural appreciation and developing essential skills like teamwork and confidence.

The event truly came alive with spectacular performances that engaged every member of the audience. Year 11 Cambridge students: Naisha, Taniya, Sheloh, Arya, Viyashenn, and Siddhartha kicked off the program with a wonderful musical medley of Diwali-themed songs that instantly set the festive and joyful mood. The excitement continued with a lively and graceful traditional dance by our Year 9 Cambridge students: Sahana, Sarah, and Anika—who beautifully expressed the festival’s joy and togetherness, earning loud applause.

Adding to the diversity of the program, Year 12 CBSE students mesmerized the audience with a soulful rendition of the Tamil melody, “Therkku Cheemayile”. Year 6 CBSE students lit up the event with their vibrant presentation, “Gokuldham Ki Diwali!” Meanwhile, the spirited Year 7 CBSE dancers had everyone clapping along to the energetic tune, “Kondaduvom Semmaiyaga Kondaduvom”. Our youngest stars, the Kindergarteners, also spread endless smiles with their sweet performance of “Deepavali Vanthachu”.

The assembly concluded with an inspiring speech by the respected Principal Ms. Dipti Joshna, who heartily appreciated the tremendous efforts of both students and teachers. She encouraged everyone to celebrate Deepavali responsibly, with kindness, and in a true spirit of togetherness, reinforcing the theme of unity and care.

Overall, the GIIS KL Deepavali Special Assembly enriched the school experience by fostering cultural pride, developing skills, and strengthening the sense of community across all grade levels.
