On August 19th, 2026, the kindergarten classroom transformed into a lively culinary kitchen as students gathered for a special Jr. Chef session. Held in conjunction with World Orangutan Day, the engaging hands-on activity combined fun culinary exploration, where students made delicious banana pancakes, with meaningful lessons on wildlife conservation, healthy habits, and personal growth.
The day began with an educational presentation where the young learners watched a short, captivating video highlighting interesting facts about Orangutans and their forest habitats. Having brought their own bananas and milk from home, the children then stepped into their roles as little chefs. Step by step, they mashed the bananas, poured in the milk, added the pancake mix, and stirred the batter to perfection. Under the careful guidance and assistance of their teachers, the students scooped the batter onto heated pans, watching eagerly as both sides cooked to a warm, golden brown before enjoying their delicious homemade treats together.
Beyond the kitchen fun, the activity provided an excellent opportunity for experiential learning. Preparing the food helped the children develop essential fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and a growing sense of independence. The event directly aligned with key Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by emphasizing bananas as a nutritious fruit choice, SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 15 (Life on Land) through environmental awareness. It also nurtured core 9 Gems framework values; promoting Innovation, Values, and Sports/Well-being, leaving the students with nourished minds, happy stomachs, and a deeper appreciation for nature.
