GIIS Kuala Lumpur (KL) Campus, Malaysia students and teachers of CBSE and IGCSE curricula assembled at University of Malaya Stadium on October 16, 2014 to celebrate Sports Day 2014. On the occasion, Orchid House won the March Past Trophy 2014-15, Hibiscus House won the Pyramid Trophy 2014-15 and Hibiscus House won the Overall Trophy 2014-15 with 38 Gold, 26 Silver and 27 Bronze Medals.
The Chief Guest, Country Director (Malaysia), GIIS, Mr Manoj Nair declared the Sports Day open as he released a flock of birds, representing freedom. The students from each house: Chrysanthemum, Hibiscus, Orchid and Sunflower did March Past and participated in the Oath Taking Ceremony led by the School Captain and the Games Captain. This was followed by students of Classes 3 and 4 marching in the arena with waving flags of countries, which is symbolic of the multi-nationalities that are a part of the GIIS ethos.
The head of Physical Education (PE) Department, Mr Bitto Saini planned and directed events for Sports Day. The atmosphere was very exciting with the cheering teams shouting out loud and waving their brightly coloured pom-poms to boost the morale of their house members.
Students of Classes 1 and 2 participated in breath- taking display in forming human pyramid, which thrilled the audience. As spectators watched the formations by students who formed towering structures by trusting and cooperating with each member of their respective houses.
The audience cheered as they watched the track & field events and reveled in the indomitable spirit of each sprinter trying to secure a winning spot for their respective houses. Races and relays for each category kept everyone on their toes.
Students from Classes 4 and 5 exhibited their agility and stamina by presenting various yoga postures. Their performances very well depicted that yoga is a powerful stream of knowledge, which enables the practitioners to achieve radiant physical health and a composed mind.
Similarly, the taekwondo students exhibited high levels of discipline, concentration and perseverance through their well-rehearsed moves.
The Class 4 students mesmerized the audience with their highly synchronized aerobic movements, which very well-matched to the feet- tapping music. All the performances indicated the hard work and dedication of the students and teacher-in-charges who had trained them with utmost diligence.
