GIIS KL Year 10 Assembly Commemorates World Maritime Day 2026

On September 22, 2026, the GIIS KL Auditorium came alive as the Year 10 students hosted an engaging and insightful class assembly to commemorate World Maritime Day. The event focused on highlighting the critical role that international shipping, maritime transport, and global supply chains play in sustaining our daily lives and driving the global economy.

Through carefully prepared presentation slides, student speeches, and an impactful video presentation, the Year 10 students effectively conveyed the significance of ocean stewardship and the ongoing transition toward greener, safer technologies within the maritime industry. The assembly emphasized how modern innovations, such as sustainable vessel design and green alternative fuels, directly advance SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

The event also drew strong connections to SDG 14 (Life Below Water), educating attendees on the urgent need to reduce marine pollution and safeguard fragile ocean ecosystems for future generations. Furthermore, the students took time to recognize the vital contributions and daily sacrifices of seafarers and maritime workers worldwide. This tribute underscored SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by promoting the necessity of safe, secure, and equitable working environments across the maritime sector.

Rooted in the school's holistic 9 Gems framework, specifically focusing on Personality Development, Universal Values and Ethics, and Community and Care, as well as SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the assembly inspired a deep sense of global citizenship. Students left the auditorium with a renewed awareness of our shared responsibility to support sustainable global trade and protect our planet's oceans.
