GIIS KL- Virtual Sports Day- Primary & Secondary

Kuala Lumpur, 28 February 2021: GIIS KL, Virtual Sports Day 202-21 was held for the primary and secondary campus on February24,2020. Although a physical sports day was impossible this year, GIIS KL and its students remarkably hosted their first Virtual sports day which turned out to be a great success.

All the students of GIIS KL were encouraged to record and send videos of themselves performing various forms of exercise such as pushups, sit-ups and squats. Several enthusiastic students sent in their videos. Their videos were then judged by the Department of Physical Education and were displayed as a compilation during the event.

The event began in great spirit with a motivational speech from the respected principal. As per tradition, a bird releasing ceremony took place, this time virtually. The first event, ‘Flashing The Festoons’ was a lively performance by the girls of classes 3-5. Following this, there was a prize distribution ceremony for class 1. Next, there was a powerful aerobic dance performance by the students of class 2. The grace of the choreography left the viewers feeling mesmerized.

The prize distribution ceremony of class 2 followed the aerobic dance performance. A video compilation of the students performing exercises was then displayed. The next performance was a sequence of exercises using stuffed toys by the boys of class 1. The viewers were enthralled by how adorable the performance was. It also displayed the simplicity in which the children could perform these exercises to stay fit while having fun. Following this, was the Prize Distribution ceremony for students of class 3. The winners were handed digital certificates.

Next, was an electrifying “Zumba Dance” performance done by the boys of classes 3-5. Zumba dance is a fitness program that incorporates dance moves with music to improve cardiovascular fitness. It is a popular and fun way of staying in-shape. The result declaration and prize distribution of class 4 followed this dance. The next event was an acrobatic dance performance by the students of classes 3-5 which consisted of them performing aerobic dance moves while holding a ball. The results of the students from class 5 who performed exercises such as sit-ups, standing long jump and juggling were then announced.

After this, a vibrant performance by the girls of classes 3-5 left the viewers in awe. It was a power-packed dance performance using hula hoops displaying their agility. Then the chief guest gave an inspiring speech. This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony for classes 6-12. A short video of the students performing exercises such as pushups, sit-ups and shuttle runs was displayed.

In such times, when most events are put on hold, GIIS KL still found a way to provide a platform for the athletes to showcase their talents. The event was organized to motivate the sportsmanship of GIIS students to stay fit amidst the global pandemic. The event served as an eye opener and inspired all to focus on their physical fitness. Students from class one to twelve had participated with great interest.
