The artistic energy surrounding Earth Day continued to flourish at GIIS KL with a celebratory award ceremony held on April 29th, 2024, in the School auditorium. This event marked the culmination of the inter-house art competition held earlier, where students of Standards 1 to 12) participated with remarkable enthusiasm.
The ceremony aimed to recognize and reward the exceptional artwork created by students while emphasizing the importance of environmental consciousness. It echoed the School's commitment to fostering individuals who excel in visual and performing arts (Gem 3), embrace innovation and creativity (Gem 5), and uphold universal values and ethics (Gem 7). Furthermore, the event reinforced the School's dedication to SDGs like good health and well-being (SDG 3), clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), climate action (SDG 13), and life on land (SDG 15).
The auditorium was abuzz with anticipation as students eagerly awaited the announcement of the winners. Previously, students tackled age-specific themes that ignited their creative spark and encouraged environmental awareness. Younger students from Standards 1 and 2 participated in a "Save Earth" coloring challenge. Standards 3 through 7 showcased their artistic interpretations of themes like "Helping Birds in Summer" (finger painting), "Say No to Plastic" (poster making), "Reuse Materials" (designing favorite animals using plastic bottles), and "How Plastic Pollutes Water Bodies" (collage work with recycled materials). Meanwhile, the higher grades (Standards 8 to 12) expressed their concerns about the "Health Risks of Plastics" through their creative designs on T-shirts.
The ceremony commenced with a warm address, highlighting the outstanding artwork produced by all participants. This was followed by the much-awaited announcement of the winners. Principal, Ms Dipti Joshna presented certificates to the students who secured the top three positions (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) in each category and level. Their proud smiles and the thunderous applause from their peers served as a testament to their dedication and passion.
This award ceremony proved to be a fitting finale to the inter-house art competition. It not only acknowledged the artistic accomplishments of the students but also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of environmental responsibility. It was a celebration of artistic expression, environmental awareness, and School spirit, leaving a lasting impact on the entire School community.
