GIIS KL conducted a comprehensive Mock Fire Drill across its school campus as part of its proactive safety initiatives recently. The exercise involved the entire school community, encompassing students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 alongside teachers and support staff.

The primary objective of the drill was to strengthen emergency preparedness and equip participants with the knowledge and confidence to handle potential fire outbreaks calmly and effectively. By simulating a realistic emergency scenario, the exercise reinforced familiarity with fire alarms, escape routes, assembly points, and the roles of fire wardens, while testing decision-making and critical thinking under pressure. Furthermore, it fostered seamless teamwork and coordination among students, educators, and the school's safety team, while training participants on fire safety equipment and emergency helpline protocols to ensure a calm, structured response in place of panic.

During the execution, the fire alarm system was triggered to initiate a swift and orderly evacuation. Demonstrating exceptional discipline, all participants evacuated their respective blocks and gathered at designated safety zones in just 2 minutes and 20 seconds. The Emergency Response Team closely monitored the drill to ensure strict adherence to established safety procedures. The activity featured an informative briefing session led by the school safety officer, a live demonstration of fire extinguisher usage, and the reinforcement of essential safety guidelines such as "Stop, Drop and Roll" and "Don’t Panic – Stay Low – Move Fast." The event concluded with reflections from student council members and staff, highlighting the importance of presence of mind during emergencies.

The mock fire drill strongly reflected several pillars of the 9 Gems holistic development framework, including Personality Development (Gem 4), Universal Values and Ethics (Gem 7), Community and Care (Gem 8), and Skill Development (Gem 9). Additionally, it aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), underscoring GIIS KL’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a secure and prepared learning environment.
