The GIIS KL Auditorium came alive with enthusiasm and purpose as Cambridge Year 4 students conducted a memorable Icon Assembly dedicated to Gobind Singh Deo, Malaysia’s Minister of Digital, on 21st July 2026. Designed to introduce the school community to his journey, leadership, and contributions to Malaysia’s technological advancement, the event demonstrated how vision and dedicated service can shape a progressive, digitally inclusive nation.

The assembly commenced with high energy and dignity, seamlessly guided by emcees Shiv and Kiyaan. A solemn rendition of the National Anthem led by Haakseeta and Yasshvaren set a respectful tone, followed by a heartfelt School Prayer recited by Arsha and Bhoomi.

Through an engaging blend of creative performances, the Year 4 pupils brought Minister Gobind Singh Deo’s story to life. An informative multimedia presentation created and narrated by Ayaansh, Haaksheeta, Karthik, Tanvi, Bhushika, Mehar, Yashwan, and Yashvaren introduced his legal background, pivotal career milestones, and ongoing digital transformation initiatives. Adding depth to the showcase, Tanvi delivered a motivational speech on forward-thinking leadership, while Akshaj captivated the audience with a powerful dramatic monologue portraying Gobind Singh Deo's commitment to public service. Bhushika complemented the presentation with a meaningful poetry recital celebrating innovation, digital equity, and responsible citizenship.

A central theme of the assembly was connecting Minister Gobind Singh Deo's vision with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. His efforts foster Quality Education (SDG 4) by advancing digital learning ecosystems and accessible educational technologies, while driving Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) by expanding opportunities within an innovation-driven digital economy. Furthermore, his work strengthens Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9) through resilient technological frameworks, aids Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10) by broadening equitable internet access across communities, and reinforces Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16) by improving cybersecurity and administrative governance.

The initiative provided students with an invaluable experiential learning opportunity aligned with the GIIS 9 Gems framework, including Academic Excellence, Visual and Performing Arts, Personality Development, and Skill Development. By stepping into creative, technical, and public-speaking roles, the students honed their collaboration, communication, and presentation abilities.

By learning about his work, the school community gained a deeper appreciation for responsible digital citizenship and the vital role technology plays in building a sustainable future.
