GIIS KL and GIIS East Coast Unite for a Global Broadcasting Experience

The air crackled with a unique energy on January 20, 2026, as the Student Exchange Program (SEP) transformed young learners into seasoned broadcasters for the "Radio Jockey" programme. Hosted by GIIS KL, this collaborative initiative with GIIS East Coast, Singapore, brought together students from Grades 6 to 8, bridging the geographical gap through the power of digital storytelling and historical exploration.

The task required more than just reciting facts; it demanded a sophisticated blend of historical depth and modern creativity. Students formed groups to research, script, and record immersive "on-site" reports that highlighted the social and cultural heartbeat of iconic landmarks. The team from GIIS KL transported listeners to the historic grounds of Merdeka Square, capturing the profound spirit of Malaysian independence. Meanwhile, GIIS East Coast offered a vibrant perspective on the Rainbow Building, illustrating how architectural beauty and history intersect in the modern world.

This event served as a practical application of the GIIS 9Gems framework, specifically shining a light on Gem 5: Innovation and Creativity. By stepping behind the microphone, students also demonstrated Gem 7 (Universal Values and Ethics) and Gem 8 (Community and Care) by showing deep respect for heritage and working seamlessly across campus lines. The initiative also resonated with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, as it challenged students to move beyond textbooks and engage in high-level research and public speaking.

The final submissions were a testament to the talent and dedication of the participants, making the evaluation process a delightful challenge for the judges. While every participant displayed remarkable poise and flair, GIIS KL ultimately secured the first-place position for their exceptionally polished and evocative reporting. Beyond the competition, the event succeeded in turning history into a living, breathing narrative, proving that when students are given the microphone, they can transport their audience anywhere in the world.
