Click for Change: The GIIS KL Digital Media Competition for a Sustainable Future

In a bid to nurture creativity and raise awareness about pressing environmental issues, GIIS KL recently hosted an inspiring Digital Media Competition. The competition, held on April 29th, 2024, saw enthusiastic participation from students across CBSE Standards 6 to 12, showcasing their talents in collage making, movie production, and digital photo-storytelling.

The theme for the competition varied according to the Standard levels, each focusing on critical aspects of environmental sustainability:

  • Standard 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
  • Standards 7 and 8: Planet vs Plastic
  • Standards 9 to 12: Save Mother Earth

Students were tasked with creating compelling digital content that not only captured the essence of the theme but also conveyed powerful messages to the audience. Entries poured in through online submissions, highlighting the technological prowess and creativity of the young participants.

Following the initial round of judging, where entries were evaluated based on innovation, relevance to the theme, and overall impact, five finalists from each category emerged. These finalists were then invited to present their creations live in front of a panel of judges in the school's auditorium.

The atmosphere was electric as students eagerly showcased their digital collages, movies, and photo stories, each offering a unique perspective on the chosen theme. From vivid representations of the global water crisis to poignant narratives on the detrimental effects of plastic pollution, the presentations resonated deeply with the audience and judges alike.

The competition not only provided a platform for students to express their creativity but also served as a catalyst for meaningful discussions on environmental conservation. Through their imaginative works, participants demonstrated a keen understanding of the importance of sustainable practices and the urgency of addressing environmental challenges.

The true impact of the competition lies in its alignment with Gem 5: Innovation and Creativity and Gem 9: Skill Development of the 9GEMS holistic education framework. Furthermore, by addressing key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Climate Action (SDG 13), the competition underscored GIIS KL's commitment to fostering responsible global citizenship.

In a world facing increasingly complex environmental challenges, initiatives like the Digital Media Competition at GIIS KL serve as shining examples of how education can inspire positive change. Through harnessing the power of creativity and technology, students emerge not only as champions of innovation but also as advocates for a more sustainable future.
