Class 10 Students Explore the Art of Diary Writing

In an inspiring blend of literary study and personal growth, our Class 10 students recently participated in a unique activity where they were required to keep a diary. The initiative seamlessly bridged academic learning with real-world skill development, turning a standard reading lesson into a memorable experience of self-expression.

The spark for the activity ignited while the class was deep in discussion over the iconic chapter, From the Diary of Anne Frank. During the lesson, several boys in the class remarked that they had never experienced keeping a personal diary before. Seizing a perfect teaching moment, their English teacher encouraged them to step out of their comfort zones. The boys were tasked with picking up a pink diary, giving it a unique name, just as Anne Frank did with her beloved "Kitty", and committing to writing daily entries for an entire week.

When the week concluded, the classroom transformed into a lively forum. The boys took turns presenting their diary journeys, sharing the thoughts and reflections they had penned down. Meanwhile, the girls in the class stepped into leadership roles as judges. They listened attentively to each presentation, evaluating their peers on emotional honesty, depth of reflection, and creative expression. After much deliberation, the judges declared Harshan Sureshkumar the winner of the activity, highly praising his insightful and deeply personal entries.

This engaging session beautifully aligns with the GIIS 9GEMS framework, specifically targeting the Personality Development Gem and Skill Development Gem. By encouraging students to articulate their inner worlds, it also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal for Quality Education (SDG 4).

Ultimately, the activity did much more than just sharpen the students' writing and public speaking skills. It created a safe, supportive space for self-expression within the classroom. The teacher’s creative initiative was widely praised for fostering empathy, boosting creativity, and promoting meaningful personal growth among the students.
