Bridging Cultures and Ideas: GIIS KL and GIIS Singapore Host Virtual Student Exchange Program

On October 6 and 7, 2026, Grade 5 students from GIIS KL connected virtually with their peers at GIIS Singapore for an enriching online Student Exchange Program. Starting each morning at 9:40 AM, the two-day event offered young learners an engaging platform to exchange ideas, showcase collaborative research, and foster cross-border friendship across continuous learning environments.

Guided by teachers Sapna Puri, Shakti Misra, and Angavai Sridharan, the exchange seamlessly integrated key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Quality Education (SDG 4), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Climate Action (SDG 13), alongside the core values of the 9 Gems holistic framework. Throughout the sessions, Grade 5 students demonstrated creativity, scientific curiosity, and global awareness through a series of well-structured presentations.

Opening the program, Grade 5A delivered a vibrant presentation entitled "Festivals Around the World." Students took their virtual audience on a cultural journey, exploring diverse celebrations such as Deepawali, Christmas, Eid-ul-Fitr, Chinese New Year, La Tomatina, Yi Peng and Loy Krathong, Fête du Citron, and the Hanami Cherry Blossom Festival. Their presentation beautifully highlighted how shared joy bridges geographic and cultural divides, ending on a resonant message of "Unity in Diversity."

Turning the focus toward practical science, Grade 5B led an insightful session on "Simple Machines." The students clearly explained the fundamental types, functions, and real-world applications of simple machines, demonstrating how combining these mechanisms creates complex compound machines. To reinforce learning, Grade 5B concluded their segment with an energetic, interactive quiz that generated enthusiastic participation from students across both campuses.

Addressing critical environmental issues, Grade 5C rounded out the exchange with a compelling presentation on "Global Warming." The session provided a comprehensive look at the mechanisms behind rising global temperatures, identifying major causes and environmental impacts while offering actionable preventive measures. By encouraging their peers to adopt responsible everyday habits, Grade 5C highlighted the vital role young citizens play in protecting the planet.

The virtual Student Exchange Program proved to be an inspiring success, leaving students from both Malaysia and Singapore with broadened horizons, enhanced presentation skills, and a deeper appreciation for cross-cultural collaboration and environmental stewardship.
