Spelling, the art of correctly assembling words from their letters, is one of the essential components of successful writing. Being confident at spelling leads to confidence in all aspects of literacy. Learners who feel confident with letters and word patterns are able to read and comprehend more complex texts. They also have the necessary language tools to better convey their own ideas through both written and verbal communication. It was wonderful to see the confidence with which the participants competed in all the different rounds.  Students participated with great enthusiasm and dueled through the toughest words to prove their mettle. The competition made students aware of spellings and the usage of many unfamiliar words. 

GIIS Spell On-line 2020 was an initiative undertaken by the senior students of GIIS Smart Campus. ?It served as a global unique virtual contest created in order to hone the spelling skills of middle school students and engage them in fun school-based activities from the comfort and safety of their homes. Eight teams from GIIS campuses around the world got a chance to take part in this first ever virtual inter-school spelling bee. The event saw global participation and attendance of over thousand students from GIIS Balewadi, GIIS Abu Dhabi, GIIS Tokyo, GIIS East Coast, GIIS Bangalore, GIIS Dubai, GIIS KL and GIIS Smart Campus, Singapore.  The students from GIIS Abu Dhabi bought laurels for their school as they bagged the second prize in the Spell On-line 2020. The team consisted of Sai Laasya from Grade 6, Pulavarthi Venkata Hasini from Grade 7 and Catherine Manuel from Grade 8. It was a wonderful learning experience not only for the participants but also for their peers.
