Students display zealous spirit at Annual Sports Day 2012

Sportive spirit on Sports Day

Loud drumbeats signalled the start of GIIS Balestier Campus Annual Sports Day at the Toa Payoh stadium on 20th October. Marching to the beats were smart Kindergarteners and Primary students led by their House Captains, Assistant House Captains, the Prefectorial Council and Green ambassadors of the school. At the end of the Walk Past, the Sports Captain pledged the oath on behalf of the school to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship. The Guest of Honour, Mr. Narayan, declared the Sports Meet open. The Principal, Ms. Melissa Maria, delivered a speech on the green initiatives undertaken by the school. Highly enthusiastic and philanthropist parents hit the tracks willingly for the event Run for a Cause, a fund-raising initiative undertaken for terminally ill children by Make a Wish foundation. Following that, Kindergarteners and Nursery classes got into the act of performing a well-coordinated mass drill. All got into the thick of action with fun games by Kindergarteners and track events by Primary children in front of a cheering audience. Exuberant winners of all races were awarded prizes by distinguished guests. Girls from Classes 3, 4 and 5 added flavour with soothing yoga exercises intended to strengthen mind and body. The concluding affair was the energetic mass drill by all the Primary students who fanned out in the open field to demonstrate team work. Celebrating the great efforts of every child is the true spirit of our Sports Day.
