GIIS Balestier Campus Students visit Jurong Bird Park

PYP Exhibition

GIIS’s focus on planning exciting and enjoyable outdoor activities and programmes for students has reinforced a positive attitude towards learning and contributes significantly to the general ethos of the school. This activity is part of the 9 Gems learning methodology - Community Connection, Care and Conserve.

At Global Indian International School (GIIS) Balestier Campus, we believe that learning should extend beyond the four walls of a classroom. We provide students with such opportunities to learn through observation and experimentation. Keeping this in mind, all students in GIIS Balestier Campus, from Nursery to Primary 6 levels were taken for a field trip to Jurong Bird Park.

At the Bird Park, students were awed by the incredible beauty and amazing agility and intelligence of the birds which they witnessed in the High Flyers Show, in which Amigo, the parrot sang a birthday song and Sassy the cockatoo, exhibited amazing flying skills. These two birds were a favourite among the young audience. The naturalistic exhibits and the various species of birds in the park gave the students an opportunity to understand and appreciate the living species in the environment and also motivate them and create awareness of the importance to conserve nature and its resources to protect these species.

A day out in the bird park allowed students to participate in exciting and enjoyable activities together with their teachers and peers. This, in turn, reinforced their positive attitude towards caring for the living species in our environment.
