Fieldtrip to Kasai Rinkai Park and the SonyExplora Science MuseumGIIS Tokyo students from grades 1-10 went on a delightful and wonderful fieldtrip to the Kasai Rinkai Park and the SonyExplora Science Museum on October 26, 2012.

Kasai Rinkai (Koen in Japanese) is a park in Edogawa, Tokyo, Japan, which was formally opened in the year 1989. The park includes a marine aquarium and a bird sanctuary, and was built on reclaimed land which includes two manmade islands, a viewing tower and a hotel.

The 117-metre (384 ft) tall Diamond and Flower Ferris Wheel opened at the park in the year 2001. On a clear day, it affords views of Tokyo Bay, Chiba, Edogawa, Tokyo Disneyland, and Mount Fuji. All the students took a ride on the Diamond and Flower Ferris Wheel and enjoyed it.

The park is always crowded during the firework display (hanabi in Japanese) period of spring, when the Japanese people party under cherry trees (ohanami in Japanese) in bloom.

After lunch, the students of Grades 4-10 were then taken to the Sony ScienceExplora Museum in Odaiba, Tokyo. Sony ScienceExplora is a hands-on science hall that tells a story to explain the link between the newest technology and basic science principle. The technologies introduced in the museum are actually applied to electronic items and entertainment technology, such as games, music, and fun. The seven exhibition key words are: input, creation, memory, codec, transfer/communication, output and impression.

All the students eagerly tried various technological inventions like, Voice Visualizer, Cellular Cube, Emotional Speech, Smile Ranking, Biological Motion, 3D Lab, 3D Sony Aquarium, and Science Battler among others.

Overall it was a fun day full of fun and surprises.
