GIIS Noida's Organic Garden: Cultivating Sustainability and Community Engagement

GIIS Noida takes immense pride in the flourishing organic garden gracing its campus—a verdant sanctuary meticulously cared for by students from grades Pre-primary to Grade 5 during their designated CCA (Co-Curricular Activities) periods. This thriving garden has emerged as a hands-on learning hub and a testament to the school's commitment to environmental stewardship.

The school organised a Farmer’s Market Day in November where students actively participated in selling and distributing the organic produce. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply their knowledge of organic farming practices, understand the market dynamics, and contribute to the broader community by offering fresh, chemical-free produce to parents, teachers, and fellow students.

Distinguished by its unwavering dedication to being 100% organic, the garden avoids the use of chemical fertilizers. Instead, it relies on nutrient-rich manure generated in diverse bio compost pits, ensuring that the produce remains fresh, untainted by harmful chemicals, and aligns with the school's ethos of promoting a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.

Recent endeavours in the organic garden have yielded notable success, particularly in the cultivation of fruits such as papaya and pomegranate. These achievements underscore the students' commitment and the effectiveness of the school's organic gardening practices.

In a demonstration of social responsibility, the benefits of the garden extend beyond the school community. Various hydroponically grown vegetables, including tomatoes and chillies, alongside spinach and pumpkins, have been distributed to the supporting staff. This initiative not only champions sustainability but also fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility.

The triumph of GIIS Noida's organic garden transcends the mere cultivation of fresh produce; it encapsulates a holistic approach to education. By involving students in the nurturing and sustenance of the garden, the school instils values of environmental consciousness, responsibility, and the significance of natural, chemical-free living.
