68th Republic Day: Patriotism, March Past and Cricket!

Infosys employees enjoy experience session

Global Indian International School (GIIS) Surat celebrated the 68th Republic Day with great the spirit of patriotism and remembering the freedom fighters who laid their lives for our Independence. This day also reminds us of our Constitution and also of our fundamental rights as Indian citizens.

The chief guest for the event was the school’s student itself, Shivam Yadav, who is the second most senior student in terms enrolling in GIIS Surat. It is the school’s tradition to invite the first batch of its students as chief guests on every Independence Day and Republic Day event.

This year Shivam got the honour of hoisting the Indian flag which was followed by singing of the national anthem. Two students of class 6 - Kaushal Jain and Smita Tiwari, reminded all of the brave hearts who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom, through a touching speech. The school’s Principal, Dr. N.K.P. Ashok Raj also addressed the students and told them to walk on the values of Gandhiji. Today the world is in dire need of Gandhiji’s ideologies and values because people have lost patience, peace and tolerance. The Republic Day ended with an impressive drill by N.C.C cadets of the school.

However, the celebrations did end there and soon after an inter-House Cricket match was played between four teams. The teams were Gujarat Lions, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. And, Kolkata Knight Riders were the winners!
