School Teams Garner Green Awards

GIIS Balestier Campus has been recognised as a crusader for environmental issues by clinching the prestigious Lotus Award, the Daisy Award and the Gold Award for 3R beating 300 entries each for the above awards.

The school has received the Lotus Award for the second time for having worked on various environment projects to understand, respect and value natural resources.

The Daisy Award is specially awarded to Kindergarten students who have shown that they are no less in making a difference to the world’s green heritage.

For its commitment to adopting 3Rs as a way of life, the school was bestowed the Gold Award for 3R. 

GIIS Balestier Campus team received the awards at the Schools

    

Green Awards ceremony organised by Singapore Environment Council at Temasek Polytechnic and graced by Guest-of-Honour, Ms Grace Fu Hai Yien, Minister, Prime Minister@aps@s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs on November 5, 2013.

GIIS Balestier Campus was also awarded laurels at the Loo Awards ceremony graced by by Guest-of-Honour, Ms Grace Fu Hai Yien, Minister, Prime Minister@aps@s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs on November 19, 2013. The Loo Award is a testimony of aesthetic restrooms at campus that steer the children towards a hygienic lifestyle.  In continuation of HAPPY Rest Room, the school launched Green Loos Project in 2012. This project has enabled to sensitise the

    

children to the environment around them while keeping their bodies and mind active.

For its stellar environmental efforts, GIIS Queenstown Campus won the Lotus award for the 2nd consecutive year in 2013 and the 3R award by Singapore Environment Council on 5 November 2013.

The 3R award by Singapore Environment Council was for participation in Sembship Green wave project for secondary schools. This was the first time GIIS Queenstown Campus had entered the competition.

The Lotus award and 3R awards are given to schools by Singapore Environment Council as part of their initiative School Green Awards. This year Singapore Environment Council received over 300 submissions for the School Green Awards spanning a diverse spectrum from pre-schools to Junior Colleges and Centralised Institutes, as well as schools for students with special needs. They also received over 200 applications for the 3R Awards 2013.
