Three students from Global Indian International School (GIIS) East Coast Campus - Coop Club attended the event organised by Singapore National Co-operative Federation (SNCF). The students had a great opportunity to showcase the school Coop Club Business Model to various dignitaries including Minister Ms. Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Ms. Dolly Goh, CEO, SNCF.

SNCF focus on providing the platform and opportunities for student and staff members to develop entrepreneurial skills and total character building. The GIIS East Coast Campus Coop club is a great example which provides this platform to students. They have been working the ground to get their own organic food business up and running. The mini farm at GIIS grows a variety of vegetables, fruits and potted plants and the Coop Club markets these harvest. To augment income, the stall set up to sell these organic items also sold non organic food products like biscuits and chocolates. The students have the opportunity to develop new skills on selling, retailing, managing the accounts and inventory, entrepreneurship. Also equips students with expertise on how to start a business.

GIIS students also shared with Ms. Fu about the origin, motivations and future plans of the Club and the importance it places in nurturing entrepreneurial skills among students, teachers and the various communities.  Many Cooperative leaders have had the chance to visit the Coop Club stall and to learn about the organic garden at GIIS East Coast Campus, they left the school feeling impressed by the hard work and the ‘can do’ spirit of GIIS community.
