Scholastic reading session for grade 1-5 students of GIIS Noida; Speech and language skill development

Ambassador Jun takes hour-long tour of SMART Campus

Story telling is an old but powerful method of enhancing a child’s ability to understand and learn concepts faster. It is the most useful form of teaching as humans can relate to incidents which helps them in remembering the information and process it faster.

To renew and promote the art of storytelling among children, and to enhance their reading and listening skills, a scholastic reading session was organized for grade 1-5 students of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida. The objective was to encourage the young minds to use their imaginative horses and come out with best of their creative skills.

The reading session was conducted by Ms. Simi Srivastava – Founder, Kathashala. A trained professional of many virtues i.e. theatre, music, movement, miming, and puppetry, Ms. Simi founded Kathashala – a storytelling institute for adults in 1998. She discovered her passion for storytelling way back in 1998 when she was pursuing a teacher training program, and gave up her corporate career to follow her passion of working with students and teachers. Intellectual satisfaction drove her towards the path of story narration. Ever since then she has been narrating stories, and working on making the art of storytelling better than ever.

Grade 1 & 2 students of the campus were engaged in an interactive story narration session on poem named i.e. “going on a bear hunt”. The whole act was full of enthusiasm and excitement as the kids enjoyed musical narration of the story mimed by Ms. Srivastava.

Students from Grades 3, 4 & 5 had their fun share of the session as they got engaged in a fun gujrati folk tale named “all free”. Students had a great time throughout the session apart from enhancing their vocabulary, speaking and listening skills.

GIIS Noida is a brand name that focuses on development of a child by recognizing their needs i.e. identifying the kind of learner they are. Each child is special and has a unique way of absorbing information. We pay close attention to their learning abilities and make sure that each child gets their share of knowledge by participating in right kind of activities that enhance their knowledge and learning speed in school.
