GIIS Noida Hosts the Inter-School Chess Championship

Members of the new student council, ambassadors and prefect council for the year 2018-19

Chess is a brain-game.  It develops mental abilities and enhances the problem solving capabilities among individuals. To promote the game and the benefits of playing chess, GIIS Noida in association with the Noida Chess Association hosted and organized the Inter-School Chess Championship on 30th September, 2016.

It was a two day extravaganza that witnessed participation of 104 students from various schools across Delhi NCR. Gracing the event, Mr. KC Joshi – Secretary of Noida and Greater Noida Chess Association, expressed his happiness on the finesse and quality of arrangements made for all the budding chess enthusiasts. Present on this occasion was Ms. Vaishali Borde – National Head Academics, Cos-scholastics & Early Years. The game began after a short prayer.

The event kicked off with a motivating speech by Mr.K.C Joshi followed by apprising of the rules and regulations, and sharing a few important tips with the participants. Students from various school participated in four categories namely under - 7, 9, 11 and 13. Each participant got an opportunity to play 5 consecutive rounds, which took place over two days.

On 1st October, the result was announced and the winners were greeted enthusiastically with rounds of applause and cheering by fellow participants, teachers and coaches. Global Indian International School, Noida secured 3rd position in ‘Best Three Schools’  category amongst 14 other participating schools. Ms. Vaishali Borde, Mr. Rajeev Katyal, the Country Director of GIIS, India and Ms. Nandita Dasgupta, Principal GIIS,Noida  congratulated the winners by presenting trophies and medals. Participation certifications were also handed over to each student who took an ardent part in the championship organized.

Concluding the event, Ms. Nandita Dasgupta – Principal, GIIS Noida shared some golden words of appreciation and vote of thanks as she felicitated the winners. The event witnessed deep involvement and high energy s among students, teachers and parents. The participants displayed true sportsmanship throughout the event. The objective behind conducting the inter-school event on such a large scale was precisely met as students developed an understanding of considering sports as a way of healthy living and active lifestyle.

It has definitely helped our students in improving their reasoning, analytical power and decision making capabilities and develop a sense of fair play and appreciation towards others achievements.
