A teacher is a learner first and a teacher later. The spirit of bettering oneself is always constant in a teacher and that’s what defines a true educationist. To promote skill enhancement and foster new age learning methodologies, a teacher training session spread over two days was conducted for pre-primary teachers of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida.

Ms. Riddhi Salva Shah, KA educationist, took the training to guide our teachers in adopting more efficient ways of teaching, planning, and strategizing their lessons and activities, so that the learning for students is maximized. The workshop entailed hands-on learning for teachers accompanied by Ms. Shah gently nudging the participant teachers to reflect upon her words and the participants’ activities. Elaborating upon the different aspects of an experience and how to draw maximum learning from it, Ms. Shah discussed how every lesson may be consciously integrated into the framework of early years learning, for the benefit of both students as well as the teachers.

Day 1: Integration of art, drama, and music in classrooms

The first day of the teacher training laid emphasis on the importance of art, drama, music and moment while teaching Montessori pupils. Various activities were conducted by the trainer to bring out the importance of the subject in early years of child education. Since music, drama, and art play a significant role in creative and emotional development of children, each topic was well covered with help of specific kits for every type (separate kits were made available for carrying out activities based on art, music and drama).

Day 2: Language Development

The second day of training focused on Language skill development in early years. Various components of language development i.e. listening, reading, writing, and speaking were demonstrated with help of practical examples, to give a live example of the impact such activities can have on a pupil’s mind. Each component was taken up in detail to foster better understanding and implementation of the activities, in order to achieve better development of language skills among the tiny tots.

The training session witnessed an active participation of teachers from GIIS Noida, who shared their experiences and showed commendable team spirit in planning out activities. Since every GIIS campus believes in keeping up with the latest trends and technologies that can help our teachers and students in touching new horizons, such teacher trainings are an integral part of every GIIS campus worldwide.

The key objectives behind conducting this workshop were to help GIIS teachers in integrating themes while planning lessons, planning activities according to age groups, focusing on the process rather than product, and finding out ways to encourage reading and comprehension among students.
