Days of practice and preparation paid off well when a collaborative Video Conferencing Project was successfully presented by the CBSE (Year 6) and Cambridge (CIPP 5, CIPP 6) students of GIIS, Malaysia on 24th Feb, 15 at the Secondary Campus on the topic “My Life as a Metamorphic Rock”.

The VC began with GIIS Ahmedabad students putting forth a very impressive role play presentation highlighting the topic. Various charts and models were made to portray the process of formation of metamorphic rocks.

GIIS Malaysia began with the presentation in a highly innovative manner in the form of a Breaking News Report highlighting the remarkable discovery of a new type of metamorphic rock by two young geologists. This new rock was named ”Rockinson” and in order to give more information about this rock, a “live interview” session with the two geologists was conducted. They explained in detail about what metamorphic rocks are, gave suitable examples and also discussed how they are formed. Following this, was a video documentary showing the processing formation of this new metamorphic rock, “Rockinson”

The following method was used to create “Rockinson”:

  1. Different types of rocks such as the Igneous Rocks (jelly beans and marshmallows), the Sedimentary Rocks (dark chocolate, white chocolate and margarine) and the Metamorphic Rock (nuts) were gathered.
  2. These ingredients were mixed together by applying pressure on them giving these individual rocks a new shape.
  3. This newly formed rock was heated on an induction cooker which totally changed its form and shape.
  4. This was then allowed to cool down which transformed into a new rock - “Rockinson”.

After the documentary, the students showcased a lively puppet show where they assumed the roles of the different types of rocks and explained their life journey and how they transformed into a metamorphic rock.

A highly enlightening message was delivered by the geologists through this presentation. They said that human life is similar to these rocks Just as these rocks undergo tremendous heat and pressure, but later emerge in a new refined form, we, as human beings face periods of trials and tribulations. But we can emerge out of it by being more successful individuals, refined and polished to confront newer challenges.

The participants were Kartikeya Sehgal - Geologist 1(Year 6B), Rachit Bhatia-Geologist 2 (Year 6D), Shauryan Agarwal - Rockinson(Year 6B), Tanish Arora-Pressure being exerted (Year 6D), Anushka Srivastava-TV News Reporter (CIPP 5B), Taranya Jeeta-Igneous rock (CIPP 5A), Zeke Divinagracia-Sedimentary rock (CIPP 5A), Harreesh Dev Chandrasager- Reporter (CIPP 6A), Shriya Vijay (CIPP 6A), Anish Vinaayak Sivasankar- Fire (CIPP 6A).
