GIIS KL – 8th Secondary Annual Day

GIIS KL celebrated the 8th Secondary Annual day in July 2017. The theme for the Annual day was ‘Red Carpet Bliss’. As the theme suggests the evening was a star studded night showcasing the icons of cinema and music.

The guests for the evening were Tan Sri Datuk Mohd Hussin bin Abdul Hamid and Professor Emeritus Dato C.P. Ramachandran. They were welcomed by Our country Director Mr. Manoj Nair and our principal Mr. Harvendra Singh Khalsa. ‘Balleilakka’ was the opening act for the evening, a song that has had a global impact and is popular worldwide.

The guests were introduced to the audience by Ms. Bhuvaneshwari Veeraragavan the Academic Co-coordinator. The Annual report for the year 2016 - 17 was presented by our principal Mr. Harvendra Singh Khalsa, highlighting the achievements of GIIS KL.

The Award ceremony was conducted to appreciate those students who have achieved Academic excellence and 100 % attendance. The students from the batch of 2016 - 17 standard 10 were awarded with the 10CGPA awards for academic performance in the CBSE - i examinations 2016 - 17. Aakash Raman the topper of standard 12 was given an award for his academic performance in the CBSE Board examination. A heartwarming speech was also delivered by the mother of Aakash Raman, the topper of the standard 12 batch of 2016.The students received the medals for their performance in the Science Olympiad Foundation. Our principal Mr. Harvendra Singh Khalsa received the best principal award for his commendable leadership and initiative taken to ensure exceptional student performance in the SOF Examinations held during 2016 - 17.

Ms. Bhuvaneshwari Veeraraghavan was awarded the 10 years’ service award for her dedicated years of service. 6 teachers received the 5 years’ service award in appreciation for their 5 years of service at GIIS. The team that led GIIS to win the Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality Award were appreciated for their leading us through this journey and motivated us to work towards quality and excellence as part of our everyday Work culture.

The cultural evening showcased the talents of our students in the various spheres of performing arts from Speech and drama, dance and music. The drama included popular scenes from iconic stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. The dance performances displayed the popular moves of the 50’s such as twist, Rock and Roll and the timeless dances that never go out of styles such as Bhangra, Malay dance and Arabic Dance. We also witnessed Elvis Project, which had students dancing to the popular songs of Elvis- The King of Rock and Roll. The students also performed an award winning performance from the competition Jhankar held at Singapore.

The musical talents of our students knew no bounds as they serenaded us with the popular songs from the 50’s to the current year 2017.

The audience was enriched with information presented by the hosts of the event regarding the theme.

The annual day came to a successful end with the vote of thanks that involved thanking all those who took part in making the event as mesmerizing it was and eventually, the grand finale where participants got together to dance freestyle and move to the music.

Everyone present looked stunning and there was a sense of satisfaction in the air and everyone surely was buzzing.

And that is how you know that it was one splendid evening.
