In November 2012, Ms Vanita Kapoor, Reception Executive at GIIS East Coast Campus received a medal from Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry & Ministry of National Development, for her bravery in saving a boy aged five years at a swimming pool in June 2012.

The incident occurred when Ms Kapoor went for a swim in her condominium (Aquarius by the Park at Bedok) swimming pool in June 2012. Before she reached the poolside, a five-year-old boy fell in the pool and seemed to be having trouble swimming. Ms Kapoor noticed the boys mother had jumped in to save him, however when the boy was brought out of the pool he seemed to have taken in a lot of water and turned blue. Several people were present at the poolside but no one responded to the mothers cry for help. Thats when Ms Kapoor helped to resuscitate the child and was able to revive him by the time the ambulance arrived. The boy was later taken to the hospital for further check up and safely released. The parents declined to disclose the name of the child and family due to personal reasons. Ms Kapoor who received a lot of appreciation for her act of bravery said, "My only concern was to ensure that the child was safe. I applied the resuscitation techniques I had learnt and the outcome was successful."
