An INTER-GIIS COMPETITION
on project-based learning through
usage of BRITANNICA
Britannica

An Inter-GIIS competition was held on the topic, @aps@Weather for You@aps@. A group of 5 students from GIIS Tokyo, GIIS Surat, GIIS Bangalore, GIIS Ahmedabad, GIIS Indore, GIIS Chinchwad and GIIS Noida joined over video conference to participate in the competition. The task was to present information about the weather in their surroundings and the change of weather conditions over the past few years in that region. The execution of the project was through the usage of Britannica online tools.

Mr. Sumit Gupta, CFO Britannica India and Mr. Rajeev Razdan, Associate VP, Britannica (India Schools) joined as judges for the competition. Competitors were chosen at random and each group presented its project to the judges.

GIIS Tokyo
The first to present was GIIS Tokyo team. They displayed their power point presentation and share information about seasons of Japan and weather pattern in Tokyo. They spoke about the effect of weather on the lives of common people and explained the reason behind the changes in weather of Tokyo.

GIIS Surat
GIIS Surat displayed a detailed model of a village and a city of Gujarat. They explained why the village was less polluted and greener in comparison to the city. They explained the meaning of weather and weather pattern. The students also spoke on the impact of global warming on earth.

GIIS Bangalore
The students of GIIS Bangalore explained about the weather pattern of Bangalore. They also explained how global warming is impacting the universe with the help of intel resource tool. They presented a mind map on global warming and suggested measures to reduce it.

GIIS Ahmedabad
The enthusiastic team explained about the landform of Gujarat, effect of natural landform on weather of Ahmedabad, reasons behind the rise in temperature of Ahmedabad and the actions taken by government for spreading awareness regarding the change in weather of the city. Then the students explained about global warming, reasons behind global warming and its impact on humans.

GIIS Indore
The students explained about weather, extreme weather conditions and weather pattern of Madhya Pradesh. The students presented and explained the data on humidity, maximum and minimum temperature, precipitation etc., through graphs. They had also prepared a beautiful and vibrant chart on different seasons. Their presentation was concluded by a poem on weather in Hindi and English languages.

GIIS Noida
The students explained the difference between daily weather and extreme weather by giving relevant examples. They shared information about the weather pattern in Noida with the help of the physical map of Noida. The students explained how different instruments can help in measuring weather of a place. They demonstrated the model of Anemometer; made by them and explained its function in measuring the speed of wind. The students presented the compiled data of change in weather of Noida in a period ten years (i.e. from 1991 - 2000) and explained how the increase in global warming due to human activities has affected the atmospheric phenomena of Noida. The students concluded their presentation by holding banners on how to reduce global warming.

GIIS Chinchwad
The excited bunch started with an introduction to the city of Pune with the help of a map and shared information about the region’s weather and its pattern over the years. They presented a case study of Hinjewadi and explained how development activities have resulted in change in climate of that place.

The individual presentations were followed by a question-answer round, where the judges asked a question to each team. The judges were very delighted with the performance of each participant. They praised the students for their research work, level of self-confidence and presentation skills. Mr. Rajeev Katyal, Country Director, appreciated each school for their innovative methods and smooth presentation skills. Ms. Sunita Jaisingh, National Head Academics, GIIS India boosted the morale of the participants. Ms Vaishali Borde, National Head Co-scholastics congratulated them and admired their presentation skills.
