“When you look at the stars and the galaxy, you feel that you are not just from any particular piece of land, but from the solar system.”
Kalpana Chawla

The mysterious yet enticing world of space opened up for the tiny tots of Global Indian International School (GIIS) Bangalore as they witnessed the Space Week. Each day was a wonderful recreation of Space with a lot of learning activities and presentations for the students of Nursery, KG 1 and KG 2. The children showed a lot of admiration for the world of stars, moon, planets and the astronauts.

On Day 1, they were shown video about the space. The video presentation for different levels was based on their understanding. The Milky Way, to which we belong was shown along with the various innovations around Space. Whether it was Galileo’s telescope, facts about solar system or the modern day technological friendly equipment, the students enjoyed the presentation with an air of happiness and excitement in their eyes. From NASA’s spacecraft launches and the mention of the famous Indian astronauts like Sunitha Williams, Kalpana Chawla, Rakesh Sharma and Ravish Malhotra was a highlight of the video presentation.

Day 2 unleashed the creative side of every student as it comprised of making of Space prop in their classrooms. Nursery children did a craft activity by making moon and star. KG 1 made rockets and this was a take away. KG 2 students made a perfect astronaut mask which was a beautiful take away to show to their parents.

Day 3 was a display of a mini Space world at GIIS Bangalore where the tiny tots came dressed up in different elements of Space like Sun, Moon, Earth, Stars, Astronaut and they had even made wonderful models of the planets and the space as part of ‘Show and Tell’ activity.

Day 4 was a space spectacle show that was organised by the teachers to showcase everything that the students had learned in the 3 days. As the kids entered into the miniature outer space zone, they could see the models of UFO, bioscope, night sky, photo booth of moon, constellation, rocket and many more amazing things from the world of Space. The video presentation was also part of the Space Exhibition.

It is a known fact that we all love the world of space and children are all the more interested to explore about the magical world of planets and stars, beyond the universe. President Mr. A P J Abdul Kalam, the Missile Man has contributed a lot towards ISRO and DRDO because of his passion in aerospace research. With a lot of contribution in Space research by our scientists, the achievements by Indians is far beyond what we can imagine.
